property had pretty views from the sitting room, an open plan living area and bedrooms and bathroom situated downstairs, clean and pretty comfortable throughout .","body":"There were various issues, some of which were down to us making assumptions on booking, some not.\r\n\r\nThere is a lot of damp in the main sitting area, and the kitchen is very basic, not great if you want to cook. The cupboards are very high, we are not that tall and could barely reach. Oven looked new, no instructions on how to use it were provided though, so there was a lot of trial and error but we got there in the end! There is no washing machine (we of course should have checked and not assumed) three dogs and by a beach, plus good old English weather, meant we ran out of stuff very quickly. Strangely there is an airer and ironing board. \r\n\r\nThe sitting area was comfy and we made up horror stories about the door in the ceiling :). The bedrooms were nice, particularly the larger room, the beds were comfortable.\r\n\r\nThe bathroom was fine, tiled throughout, nice strong shower. The bathroom door kept jamming shut though and after getting stuck in there the first night, we had to leave it open.\r\n\r\nThere is no outside space at all so you have to walk your dogs even if they want to go out at 2 am, in hindsight we should have checked on Google maps to see exact space ..a lesson learned!\r\n\r\nThe property is set halfway up a hill, and the whole area is very steep, would not recommend to anyone with mobility issues. And although there is free onstreet parking, finding a space was very hit and miss, so be prepared to make many trips with your luggage! Good way to get your steps in though.\r\n\r\nOverall would recommend to anyone with a reasonable degree of fitness who wants a clean base from which to explore (assuming the damp and the sticky door get sorted) . Extras such as tea and coffee, salt and pepper, kitchen roll etc. were useful. The cottage was warm and cosy and very conveniently located. However, although there was seating outside, attention to the weeds / plants growing could make the outside space more attractive. This place is very conveniently located in Fortuneswell with a wonderful sea view. It is close to the pebbly beach, and a short walk to a pub, post office and Co-op Supermarket. There are not many restaurants around here, but there is a fish and chip shop and an Indian takeaway. There is a petrol station and Lidl Supermarket 5 minutes drive away, close to the marina. On-street parking is tight and limited. However, there is parking if you don't mind a walk up or downhill away from the house. If public transport is used the cottage is conveniently located to the bus stops up and down the road from the house to take the bus into Weymouth or along the rest of the island. People around here are nice and friendly. The house is very comfortable, with all facilities, a real home for home. The location is right next to the church and while bells do ring on the hour it didnt really affect us. The road up to the house is quite narrow and with parked cars you sometimes have to mount the pavement to avoid, but it was never an issue, just added to the character of the place. With 3 local pubs close by, a Co-Op convenience and a fish and chip at the end of the road, you really dont need to drive every day while staying there. The bus service is excellent, with buses every 15 minutes or so into Weymouth or towards Portland Bill. There are some fantastic coastal path walks that you can do on Portland and Weymouth is also a great place to visit. We had brilliant weather while we were there (end of March) and some amazing sunsets over the sea which can be seen from the lounge window and the front bedroom window. The only slight downside is the parking situation but itâs like that everywhere in Fortuneswell and we always managed to find somewhere to park either up or down the hill. Also, if I was being really picky, there are no plug sockets anywhere near the mirror in the bedroom but we bought an extension lead and got round the problem.
