So on the Sunday we bought some air freshener, but this only took the edge off it, although did prevent it spreading beyond the bathroom. On the Monday, I bought some drain cleaner/unblocker and poured it down the sink, this I left for 4 hours and then rinsed with hot water. Finally by around Thursday, the smell was all but gone. You have to understand that the smell was so awful it made me want to vomit. I have never known such a terrible pong, and i have worked in some pretty smelly places. \nSo to the rest of the cottage, mostly it was alright, although we did think that the kitchen was a bit under supplied with cupboard space. The clock wasn't working, so we put a new battery in it, a light bulb went pop in the lounge so I had to change this too. The outside light didn't work, which didn't make for easy access in the dark due to all the steps. \nWe used the washing machine mid week but then found that there was rather a limited number of pegs! The hot tub wasn't especially clean, with bits of the cover and flies floating in it whenever we used it. Certainly not upto our usual standard of holiday stays. \nThankfully we enjoyed good weather when we were down for our fortnight, so we were able not to have to spend too long in the cottage. \nThat said, we did like how the fence shielded you from the road noise. The walk to the cliff top was nice, and the views along the coast were spectacular at sunset. \nOne of the positives of our stay were the guide books, as we like to do a fair number of walks, the local one through Tehidy was quite pleasant. \nIt was nice to get the welcome hamper on arrival and to have milk in the fridge. \nI think my only other quibble was that it was very hard to get out onto the road as it is totally blind pulling out of the drive. If there was a mirror opposite it would make life far easier. \nWould I stay here again? Absolutely not. Especially for the money that we paid. Both me and little one struggled with this.\nThe curtains in the cottage we stayed in didn't even cover the whole length of the window.\nI'm not a bath person and love a great shower, but there was no chance of this at all, no pressure enough to even try and swill off sand after coming back from the beach, let alone a hose long enough to even reach down to your legs. We were not disappointed. The barn conversion was beautiful both inside and out, renovated to a high standard but kept beautifully traditional. The accommodation was surprisingly spacious, the pictures do not do it justice. \r\nIt was warm and toasty on arrival, plentiful hot water and free logs for the woodburner. The kitchen is well eauipped. There is everything you could possibly want or need for a home from home stay. Many properties âallowâ dogs but few offer the welcome that this one does, towels, bowls, and even a lovely comfy dog bed provided!! The girls were delighted. The outside space is secure for all but the most determined escapees, pretty but natural and a wonderful place to sit with a morning coffee whilst listening to the birdsong, or with an evening glass of wine watching the sunset, and if you are lucky enough to have clear skies the stars are abundant and bright.\r\nClaudia was lovely to chat to, not at all intrusive, and lives nearby should you need anything.\r\nWe and our dogs enjoyed walks directly from the door though fields and ancient woodland, along the river and up over the beautiful rugged Bodmin moor. If you are looking for a peaceful tranquil haven that is right off the beaten track but within easy driving distance of the beaches and busier attractions that this amazing county has to offer, you will love Barley Crush.\r\nWe have stayed in many locations on and around Bodmin moor, and this is one of our favourites. Good access to beach/coastal path. At low-mid tide the beach is good for bodyboarding if the swell is up, or swimming if not (lifeguards are present during the summer season 10am-6pm). Worth noting that the beach is covered from mid-high tide and although we saw some people swimming, you would have to be quite confident to swim off the rocks. Nice to sit on the rocks and watch the waves though. Nice food at the local pub and the surf shop sells lots of beach/swimming/surfing equiptment. The cottage is a good size for 2 people, comfortable and equipped with most of what you would need in terms of cooking equipment. The only downsides are that 1) (as noted in other reviews) the shower isn't very powerful and the height cannot be adjusted (but if you keep it on ECO, you don't get the temperature surges that others have noted), 2) there isn't any outside space for drying towels/swimming stuff or an airer for doing so inside (we hung them over the wall of the carpark opposite) and 3) the cheaper carpark is 3 minutes walk up the hill. Important note about the council car park: it is free overnight, but they no longer sell weekly tickets at the carpark, just monthly or day rates (the information on the council website is out of date). This enabled us to park the car in Millpool carpark and walk to the property where the scoot was easily stored in the main lounge are.
